Title: Sapphire's Weigh-In

sapphire - July 12, 2007 08:45 PM (GMT)
Hi everyone,

Here is my weight chart from when I started my healthy lifestyle (Jan 30, 2007):

user posted image

My highest recorded weight before then was 159.28 lbs (72.4 kg) but it could be higher because I did not have a scale before. My weight has been fluctuating over the past couple of years, and in 2004 I went down from 154 lbs (70 kg) to 136.4 lbs (62 kg), from August to December, by going to the gym practically every day. Then I moved to Australia and gradually gained all of it back, especially during exams and holidays.

I weigh-in on Wednesdays.

July 11:
147.62 lbs (67.1 kg)

sapphire - July 12, 2007 08:52 PM (GMT)
Lost 1.98 lbs (0.9 kg) since last week's weigh-in! :happydance:

shygemini - July 12, 2007 09:18 PM (GMT)
Wow, almost 2lbs lost,congrats! :danceparty:

I love those weight chart things, maybe i'll post mine on my weigh in thread...i just find sometimes you get so down about gaining back a pound , due to bloating or whatever else, but if you can see the overall trend is losing, it is very motivating! :wooohooo:

NicC - July 12, 2007 09:53 PM (GMT)
Great job this week! :fantastic: I like your little graph!

stormgirl - July 12, 2007 09:55 PM (GMT)
That is great Sapphire, a big loss! Congrats  That graph is rather good...I might just make myself one too...perhaps we all could and then start a thread specific to our charts. It would interesting to see everyones peaks and troughs :goodidea:

purrrple - July 13, 2007 12:17 AM (GMT)
You've done really well Saph! and congrats on the loss this week! I told you it's only going to go downhill from here now that you've got through exams ;)

sapphire - July 13, 2007 08:56 AM (GMT)
Thanks everyone! I really appreciate your support. It feels great to be back on track. :D

That's a great idea, Stormy. Tickerfactory automatically makes one for you when you enter your weight each week to update your ticker. I just copied and pasted the bbCode to here. :)

Thanks Purps, funny thing is, the zig-zag area on my graph was actually before exams. I continued to lose steadily (albeit slowly lol) during exams and gained afterwards, when my parents came to visit in the holiday!

My first day at the gym yesterday was great. I thought it would take some getting used to again but it turned out fine. I have a major exam (which counts 100% for the subject's mark) coming up in August, so I might not be around as much as I'd like. I will still try to stay on track though. I go back to uni this Monday, and will have to find a balance between studying, going to the gym, and going out / relaxing. We'll see how it goes. :bouncy:

TeachX3 - July 13, 2007 02:49 PM (GMT)

 Awesome job Sapphire! I hope you are able to find that balance... that is what most of us strive for I think. :congratulations: for continuing your healthy life with dedication!! :D

TeachX3 - July 13, 2007 02:50 PM (GMT)

P/S: I have my graph on the first post of my weigh in thread too! :)

Saph -

Congrats on your progress so far!

I think your zig-zag chart looks healthy -- that's all training for maintenance. I have never managed to make a straight-line weight loss in my life, it's always lose, hold, lose hold, regain, lose, hold etc. As long as the lose & holds are bigger than a regain I figure I'm doing ok. I've kept off aver 60 pounds for 5 years, and yeah, I'd like it to be more, but if I had "at goal or bust" thinking I'd have given up long ago & ballooned back up to 250 pounds. If I didn't learn how to live w weighing 220, then 200 I wouldnt be able to manage keeping my weight around 185 for the past few years. I will eventually be able to lose another chunk of weight and I'm now confident I'll be able to maintain that new weight too. And if I do this process a few more times, eventually I'll get to my goal weight.

It's not the fastest way to get there, but there are multiple routes to the destination.

LimeCrush - July 18, 2007 01:39 PM (GMT)
Great job Saph! :cheer:

sapphire - July 18, 2007 05:07 PM (GMT)
Thanks Sarah and Limey :huggs: I really appreciate your support. Sarah, I totally agree. I guess maintenance doesn't seem as daunting now. I'm just taking this journey one step at a time, and realise that if it takes a long time to get the scale moving, that's fine. I feel great (it must be the endorphins), everyone is complimenting me on my weight loss, I am eating healthily, and I am not so self conscious anymore. I am the most confident I have been in my whole life, and this new mindset has helped me focus more on my goals, not just those pertaining to weight.

sapphire - July 18, 2007 05:08 PM (GMT)
July 18:

147.4 lbs (67.0 kg)

Lost 0.22 lbs (0.1 kg) since last week, although I weighed 146.74 lbs (66.7 kg) two days ago, and have been going to the gym regularly and watching what I'm eating. We'll see how next week goes.

Cherriterri - July 18, 2007 05:30 PM (GMT)
That's still great!! The scale is still going down. :bouncy:

purrrple - July 18, 2007 11:49 PM (GMT)

Righ - July 19, 2007 06:56 AM (GMT)

sapphire - July 20, 2007 05:42 PM (GMT)
Thanks Teach and Shy! :huggs: I'm going to try to be extra good this week with respect to eating healthily and going to the gym :D

stormgirl - July 21, 2007 07:28 PM (GMT)
Aw you are doing so well Sapphire...your target is just where I want to be also! The rate you are going, you will be there in no time. Maintenance has its moments lol, but it is amazing to look back and see what you have achieved. :danceparty:

sapphire - July 26, 2007 12:05 PM (GMT)
Thanks Stormy :huggs: Sometimes when I feel that my goal is kinda far away, I just think of your progress and hit the gym!

sapphire - July 26, 2007 12:20 PM (GMT)
July 26:

148.72 lbs (67.6 kg)

Gained 1.32 lbs (0.6 kg) since last week's weigh-in.

I have been doing both cardio and weight training at the gym so I'm thinking it could have something to do with that. I have been active (taking 14,000 - 17,000 steps/day on my pedometer on average, going to the gym 4-6 times a week, and eating healthily) so I can't think of any other explanation. I haven't been eating too much - in fact I think I'm guilty of undereating on some days. I'm trying to fix that, though. :)

Next week... ;)

NicC - July 26, 2007 01:20 PM (GMT)
Sounds like you're doing great overall (maybe you should measure those inches!!! - you must be building some serious muscle!!!)
:bouncy: :bouncy: :bouncy:

purrrple - July 27, 2007 12:39 AM (GMT)
:wooohooo: muscles are great!

sapphire - July 27, 2007 12:01 PM (GMT)
Thanks NicC and purrrple :huggs:, I really should take my measurements! Hopefully the scale will move in the right direction next week. :bouncy: I do feel more toned though, especially in my arms.

TeachX3 - July 27, 2007 02:44 PM (GMT)

WOOOT!! :bouncy: Toned is AWESOME!!

NicC - July 27, 2007 04:16 PM (GMT)
Hi again Sapphire - toned it Great!!!

shygemini - July 28, 2007 03:43 AM (GMT)
we can't always measure success by the scale sapphire :huggs: I think it sounds like you are doing fantastic, keep it up! :bouncy:

sapphire - July 28, 2007 09:56 AM (GMT)
Thanks Teach, NicC, and Shy! :) :huggs:

I have taken my measurements and they are quite close to those at my lowest weight since I started my healthy lifestyle (146 lbs) although I'm almost 3 lbs heavier now. I'm trying not to focus on the number on the scale too much, so as not to get discouraged. I joined the gym about 2 weeks ago and love going there (I haven't tried any exercise classes yet). I'll just continue with this, and see how it goes. :)

stormgirl - July 31, 2007 11:17 AM (GMT)
Sapphire those measurements are looking great, what are your goal measurements? Toning is the key, keep at it down the gym and you sound like you are enjoying which..that is always a huge bonus!

sapphire - August 3, 2007 11:31 AM (GMT)
Thanks Stormy :D You're absolutely right, I can really feel the effects of weight training (especially in my upper body) since I joined the gym 3 weeks ago. I'm trying to stay positive even when the number on the scale doesn't change (or increases!)

sapphire - August 3, 2007 11:43 AM (GMT)
Forgot to add, I haven't really thought of specific goal measurements, but I want to be leaner overall, especially in my midsection and thighs. I want my waist to be in the mid-to-high 20"'s as well. I guess I can't come up with definite numbers til I actually get there, as I don't know what my measurements were like at my highest / lowest weight. Do you have any suggestions? :)

shygemini - August 3, 2007 07:33 PM (GMT)
great looking measurements!

maybe you can't really have goal measurements...you just have to go by what you look like and how you feel? :yourock:

sapphire - August 3, 2007 10:25 PM (GMT)
Thanks Shy :) Good point

TeachX3 - August 3, 2007 10:34 PM (GMT)

WOOOT!!! :yourock: Sapphire, keep it up girl... that scale does not always know what it is talking about, but measurements and the way you feel don't lie! :bouncy:

sapphire - August 3, 2007 10:51 PM (GMT)
August 1:

148.72 lbs (67.6 kg)

No change since last week.

I am starting to get a bit worried, as I stepped on the scale today and it read 149.82 lbs (68.1 kg), the same weight it's been showing since my Wednesday weigh-in  Please help! My diet is super clean most of the time, I go to the gym regularly, and walk fast all day. I don't believe I'm building enough muscle to elicit this sort of plateau / weight gain. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks! ;)
