Princess2one - August 1, 2007 06:22 PM (GMT)
I'm going on the slim fast diet on Saturday, so my challenge is to follow that strickly. I dont know for how long I'll do it for. Im planing on one month and then I'll go from there. Mainly with two kids I need potion control done for me and to already have planned for I'll eat, or I'll just crab anything. Also I dont eat breakfast and on this diet you eat breakfast.
Slim fast diet for 1 month ;)

Princess - I hope it's the kick start you need! Definitely will help in training you to eat breakfast. Just make sure you get enough calories.
My August challenge:
Train running with my ds (10) who needs to do it for his Brown Belt in Karate
goal: 3 days a week
He needs to be able to do it for 24 mins so this will be quite a challenge for both of us.
I'm sweating just writing this.

Good Luck to you that would be great exercise. ;)
I dont seem to have a problem eating to few calories  But I know what you mean. I have not decided what that number will be yet.

I hope the best for you Princess2one... 'diets' are not usually balanced nutrition... I would suggest you try to eat something (even if it's only a piece of fruit, a cereal bar or a protein drink) within one hour of waking up and then go from there. Please be careful on the slim fast diet, one tends to end up eating more than they should consume due to the fact that drinking calories (even vitamin fortified) leave the body feeling empty and unsatisfied. Be safe on this 'diet' and listen to your body so that you make sure you get a wide variety of nutritional foods. :) IMO slow and healthy is the way to success ... and to stay Fit4Life!!

teach speaks wisely...
i echo what she said, and i'll also say that actually the majority (i think) of people on this forum (not myself however) have kids, so they might be able to help you in terms of the challenges faced with that and eating healthy..
mostly i don't think diets tend to work because once you are done with the "diet", you go back to how you ate before! i can understand wanting a kick start though, and if you feel this is the way to go for you then i wish you luck. Maybe after a few days you can make up your own shakes...fresh fruit, milk, yogurt, really you can't go wrong and they always taste good :wooohooo:

I plan on only doing slim fast for a month. I though that I'd be busy enough planning snacks and dinner at first, so this takes care of breakfast and part of lunch. I know this has to be a lifestyle change and that a diet will not work long term.

Princess- I use the slim fast shakes as well, but a bit differently. I tend to only use them for breakfast and then only when I'm running late or can't stomach a full breakfast (sometimes as a mid day snack). The shakes that i drink have only 190 calories in them. If you drink 2 a day your only getting 380 calories for what IMO should be the larger of the two meals you eat in a day. As a side note, I tend to be hungry shortly after drinking one in the morning if that is all i grab on my way outta the house. This is a good thing becasue it starts my metabolism, but I have found that unless I plan correctly (ie bring a snack or something) I end up defeating the purpose of breakfast becasue I starve myself until lunch.
I have been caught in the trap for years of not getting enough calories. When I started counting calories a month ago I was getting less than 1000 calories a day...hence no weight loss as my body was being deprived. At this time I was eating 1 shake, 2 WW frozen dinners, and a small snack. I thought I was doing great and was shocked to find out exactly what I was doing to myself. Now I aim to get 400-500 calorie breakfast, lunch and dinner with 2 snacks in between. For example, I now try to grab a banana and piece of cheese etc with my morning shake.
I woke up late this morning, had my shake about 2 hours ago (with nothing else) and I already have the shakes...just listen to your body carefully.

Princess - I actually find the bars (which I sometimes buy for snacks or breakfast) fill me up longer than the shakes (which I don't use often - unless its PMS time and I have a serious chocolate malfunction, I did have one with lf soy milk yesterday for snack but it's unusual for me).

This what Slim-Fast recommends for someone over 200lb.
A combination meal for Breakfast and Lunch. This is a shake with yogurt and fruit, a cup of soup or 1/2 sandwich. This would be about 350 calories for breakfast and 350 calories for Lunch.
4 Snacks-about 120 a piece
3 fruits or vegetables
Sensible dinner- about 500 calories.
This seems reasonable. ;)

I did Slim-fast today, but I dont like the taste. I think that Ill keep it on hand of when I'm running out the door but on morning that I have time for breakfast I'll just eat oatmeal. ;)

that slim fast diet does seem reasonable...but i guess i don't understand what the purpose of the slim fast itself is? it just sounds like they are telling you to eat a balanced diet of around say 1800 calories...which if you are above 200lbs WILL result in weight loss.
If the point is just that the shakes are convienient to eat, and easy to eat on the go...then i understand that completely...otherwise i'm a bit lost.
Your idea of having them when you don't have time for a regular meal is a good idea!
Princess2one - August 13, 2007 01:26 PM (GMT)
Its because its easy! :) But I have not been drinking them very offen.
