Title: Holiday Challenge

There is a challenge on another forum that i would love to do here if enough people would like to join in. I thought it would be a great to do one, that way we can make it through the holidays together!
The way it would work is that i would randomly split people into groups, and as a group you compete for points.
1. You'll get +2pts if you lose more than .5lbs that week, and -2pts if you gain more than .5lbs that week. No pts gained or lost if your weight gain or loss is less than .5lbs that week. For those in maintenance, you would get +2 points for not gaining or losing more than 1 lb that week, and -2pts if you do.
2. You'll get 10pts each week you exercise for a total of at least 3hrs. The 3hrs can be split up however you want ie 1hr 3days a week, 30min 6days, etc. As long as you get in 180 total minutes each week. You must include a rest day.
3. At the start of the challenge you will post your current weight and your goal weight for the end of the challenge. Your goal weight can be whatever you choose, however, it must be at least a minimum of 3% of your starting weight. So if your starting weight is 200lbs, your goal weight must be at least 194lbs or less (3% of 200 is 6lbs). Those who reach their goal weight at the end of the challenge will get an additional 35pts.
4. At the end of the challenge, each team will get 50pts for each % of weight lost. So if your team loses 3% of its original weight, your team will get 150pts. I'll pro-rate it so that you can lose 2.5% and get 125pts.
The team with the most pts at the end of the challenge wins. And the individual with the most pts wins.
An idea for prizes that i liked were postcards!
If you wanted it to run through Christmas and end on New Years Eve (which i thought would be kinda cool!)...we could start the challenge with initial weigh-ins on Monday November 5th and end with final weigh-ins on Monday December 31st. That would make it an 8 week challenge. We can start and end on any dates according to preference so hit me with your ideas!!

one thing i am confused about.. so we split into groups, and you said as a group you compete for points..are you competing against the other groups, or within your group? does each person in the group that loses weight get points for the group?
it made sense until i read the part about the team getting points for each % of weight lost...but perhaps all the points are individual until that time?

hmm not sure how much weight I will/can/would lose at the moment cos I'm not sure whether I'm in maintenance or whether I can lose more. My weight is bouncing around between 124lbs and 127lbs. I can do with getting rid of the tummy that I have managed to gain back! So...sounds like I need to lose! :lol:
I hope you will let us know when we need to log our weight and work out our points for us...because I'm already lost :lol: :lol:

Yes each group member earns points for the group.
So if in week 1 I exercised and lost that would be 12 points toward my team total.
At the end, the team with the highest points wins! We can modify things as needed to accomadate a smaller group.
There are also bonus' that we can add each week...like in week 2 we could say you get an extra 5 points for every day you drink 64oz of water or more.
Any fun ideas you have would be great. I'll have to read some of the prior challenges for some more ideas.
Also each team had their own name (walking in a winter onederland etc) and thread that they posted their info on so that they could cheer each other on.

Yep...if we can get 1 more person we can do 3 duos.
We need to figure out when to start. I really liked the idea of starting Moday the 5th and with final weigh-ins on Dec 31st. What a way to ring in the new year!
The only problem I see with that is most people here weigh-in on wednesdays, so i am unsure if a monday weigh-in is possible. For those that weigh-in daily, it's not an issue.
Also we gotta come up with Team names! Any ideas?

Well i weigh myself every morning anyway...and i like the idea of going until dec 31 !
Team names- probably the easiest is combining the names of the people on the team in some way..but i would say its up to the teams once they are made!

Okay well then what we can do is on Sat I will put everyone's name in a hat to draw for teams. You guys can name your teams what ever you want. You can be festive for the Holidays: dreaming of a light christmas, snowblowing the pounds, twas the night before weigh-in, or come up with anything you want.
If there's only three teams we can all post on 1 thread, or if you want you can make a thread for your own team. I will post a template for us to post and then edit throughout the challenge so that everyone's info is easy to find.
Unfortunately, my Uncle passed last night so i will be out of town when the comp starts. I will still have my computer, but won't be tied to it like i am now. I'll have everything ready to roll for Monday morning before I leave though.
I'm so excited!

I wanted to ammend the points for the exercise part of the challenge. You still get 10 pts for getting in 3 hours of exercise, but IMO you should get something for every bit of exercise you complete. So, If you exercise less than 3 hours, you get 1 point for each 1/2 hour of exercise. This way there is still an incentive to hit 3 hours, but still is motivating if "life" happens.
Also, each week we will have a bonus challenge, which will allow you to earn 1 bonus point for weach day that you complete it. Some ideas that i have come up with are keeping a food diary, water, getting in 3-4 servings of vegetebles etc. Here is where i need your opinion. This is OUR challenge, so if there is anything that you are struggling with, or would like to change, please let me know. This way we can make it a bonus challenge and give you an incentive to do or not do something that is impeding your weight loss. We can get there together!

One suggestion for the template: Could the weight at the top read starting weight, current weight (which we use for the weigh in) and Challenge Goal weight, Ultimate Goal Weight. Just for myself I feel like I need to keep it in perspective.
So for me it would be like this:
Starting weight: 275
Current weight: 199
Challenge goal: 189
Ultimate goal: 147
I love the clever holiday names.

I've had a request for points over 3 hours of exercise, so we'll go with 1 pt for every half hour over 3 hours. Just put a smilie for each 1/2 hour like normal and once you get over 6 then i'll give you an extra point for each one. Remember...YOU HAVE TO TAKE A REST DAY. We don't want anyone getting hurt.
