Title: Prin's Food Diary

Princess2one - January 4, 2008 06:36 AM (GMT)
Oh the dreaded food diary. I cant live with it and I cant live without it.
The thing is if I know that I'll be posting my food intake I go way under calories, if I dont post my food intake I go over broad. So heres what I'm going to do. I'll post a list of what I eat to make sure I get in my water and veggies and stay on the light side but I'm not going to count calories. (for now)
What do you think?
I think that if I get 64oz. of water and 5 severings of fruits and veggies and watch portions I'll be in my calorie zone. ANd maybe just log calories here and there to check. ;)

TeachX3 - January 4, 2008 05:06 PM (GMT)

I think that is an EXCELLENT idea P2O!! Remember, we are not here to 'judge' you... so when you post your daily food, be honest with yourself and keep in mind that nobody eats perfect, otherwise we would be the forum of perfect healthy people!

NicC - January 4, 2008 08:34 PM (GMT)
"Perfect Healthy People" Haha haha

Teach is right - if you look at mine - way to much chocolate the last couple of days but TOM will be over soon enough and next week my daily routine will normalize I hope so my diary will hopefully improve then too...It's a good way to see where to improve and why you ate what you did...

Princess2one - January 5, 2008 01:50 AM (GMT)
Thanks girls! I know that you guys wont judge me. Its really just me having to be good at everything. Writing it down just makes it real.

Jan. 4th: Off to a rocking start :(
Skipped Breakfast.
Lunch: whole wheat pasta with clam sauce and 1 garlic stick
Snack:chips and dip
handful peanut butter chips (for baking) I dont know what I was thinking.
Dinner: Pork cutlet w/cabbage, oranges w/lite whipped crean.
32oz. gatorade-I've been to sick to handle water.
Snack: naturals mini popcorn, hot tea
2 bananas
I've got alot to work on. I walked right out the door this morning and didnt give food a though til 12:30.
I cant get my mind on food in the morning, but I cant keep my mind off food in the eveing! Whats up with that.

TeachX3 - January 5, 2008 03:00 AM (GMT)

First :huggs: next, *take a deep breath* OK... let it out... and now you can start fresh...

When we do not eat breakfast, we are very hungry at night... hold on, let me see if I can find the article I was just reading... FTA: "When to eat - Eat breakfast and two other meals each day. People who eat breakfast are less likely to snack in the evening. Eat at least every 4 to 6 hours when awake rather than waiting until your stomach starts growling." ... http://www.dietitian.com/healthy.html

Maybe make yourself a note that you will see first thing in the AM, put it by the alarm clock, or by the coffee pot, or stick it to the door so you see it on your way out. OR just lay our a breakfast bar on the table or by your purse. You do not have to eat a big meal, just putting *something* into your system will jump start that metabolism and then in an hour or two, you will be hungry for more!

:huggs: You can do it girl, it just takes time to teach our bodies how to live properly... it is a learned lifestyle.

Good for you for holding yourself accountable!! :bouncy:

Princess2one - January 5, 2008 03:43 AM (GMT)
Thanks Teach your post really made me feel better, as well as gave me some good ideas. ;)

I love that article. I really like "Where to eat" I actually got in the habbit of "needing" something everytime I got in the car. Now I try for hot tea.

shygemini - January 5, 2008 04:02 AM (GMT)
What i find interesting prin, is that although you say you crave food more at night, what you ate at night was very healthy, and what you ate during the day was not. I am wondering if you were trying to eat better? In any case that is a good thing.

The peanut butter chips...were you baking something with them or did you just wanat to eat them? (and believe me i understand, there is something about those chips that is very irresistable!) My suggestion is to put things like that high up in your cupboards so that they are not easy to reach, and therefore you cannot "blindly" reach for them..you have to get a chair to reach them, which means you are thinking more about what you are doing! :)

Dont despair, keeping track of what you are eating is such a great start, and you did not do so terrrible as you think :huggs:

NicC - January 5, 2008 04:07 AM (GMT)
Honestly other than the chips and dip and skipping breakfast, you really didn't do that bad. I think that's where calorie counting helps - If I'm reading labels I will think many times longer before deciding to eat something.

Princess2one - January 5, 2008 05:16 AM (GMT)
Thanks Shy and Nic!
Yes Shy I ws tring to eat better, on break after dinner I'm been snack on Pizza Rolls, Croissant Roll, Chocolate, Crackers and Cheese. Just Junk Food and lots of bread. It's hard breaking your self so I though I'd go to healthier snack and then cut them out or at least limit to 1.
No, I wasn't even baking, I just saw them and ate them. Think I will move the baking items up a shelf or two.

Princess2one - May 11, 2008 03:45 AM (GMT)
Wow its been awhile! I was thinking about starting to post again on Monday since I know what todays post would look like but then I decided to go ahead an post todays so you can really see what I've been up to!

Breakfast: Skipped- Just didn't think about it. I plan on really working on this. Last week a couple of times I made eggs W/ green peppers and onoins and I noticed that I was alot less hungry and more happy with healthier snacks then when I skip breakfast but this really is a challenge for me.

Lunch- Arby's 1055 CALORIES - I did not know that til just now. I had a Beef-N-Cheedar, curly fries and a Root Beer.

Dinner- Ribs, Mac and Cheese, and Cauliflower- 917 calories

Snack- Homemade Ice Cream Sandwich- 320 calories

Total- 2292 A little high in calories and it was alot of junk, almost no veggies or fruit and all clustered together. I have alot to work on.

shygemini - May 11, 2008 07:56 AM (GMT)
i don't think the calories are bad at all but yeah the nutrition has suffered a bit...i am guessing it wasn't a very satisfying day in terms of how full you feel? I know i don't feel too full if i haven't eaten well. But, this is a great place to start and i'm glad you posted...we can do this together!

Teach suggested to me to eliminate one thing from my diet for awhile which i normally would not, in order to jump start my healthy eating. I chose chocolate, and my goal was to not eat any for a week. Well, i did have a 100 cal choc bar tonight, but i still consider this to be a success...i know that i can control my cravings better (which was the point of it all!).

Maybe there is one bad thing you can eliminate from your diet for awhile? I know it will be hard but i really think it can help you.

TeachX3 - May 11, 2008 03:27 PM (GMT)

Exactly Shy, just one thing can make a huge difference! Not necessarily in our nutrition or even in our weight loss, but in our minds!! *That* is where most of us wage the battle and when we prove to ourselves that we can control something, it is a HUGE boost to our self esteem and it gives us that added jump start so we feel we can do it!!

P2O, girl your food intake looks so much like so many peoples... so my point is, don't think you are the lone ranger when it comes to making bad food choices :huggs: each and every one of us here has been there, may be there right now or will be there at one point or another. You can live healthier, depending on your type of personality, either 'go gung ho and jump right in strong and strict' OR 'ease your way into the healthy lifestyle, go slow and start small' above all, 'be kind to yourself'!!

GOOD TO SEE YOU HERE P20! :huggs:

Princess2one - May 12, 2008 12:18 AM (GMT)
Thanks Shy and Teach. Its good to be back. It seems to me that I do better when I visit the site offen so I plan on posting daily and not dissappering again. ;)

Breakfast- 2 Eggo Waffles W/ Butter and 1/8 cup syrup- 310 not bad but it was a small meal, but I needed to get breakfast in.

Lunch- Homemade Spinach and Mushroom Manicotti (1 1/2 noodles)-340 Guessed off of calorie count I will get an exact number next time I make it.

Dinner- Beef and Gravy over mashed potatoes, Brocolli, cauilflower and carrots- 559

Snack- 2 chocolate cokkies and a sobe- 420- 300 calories for a whole Sobe

Total: 1629 Wow thats lower than I thought it would be, but I need more veggies and fruit.

Princess2one - May 12, 2008 01:26 AM (GMT)
Starbucks run- Tall vanilla Bean- 260 Calories not to bad it has 12 grams of protein.

New total for today- 1889 - Closer to where I want to be calorie wise but I need to cut out some junk in exchange for healthier foods. 8)

Princess2one - May 12, 2008 10:36 PM (GMT)
Breakfast for the second day in a row! I should get a reward!

Breakfast- 1 egg with green peppers and onions on a torilla-220 calories
8oz. Light Cranberry Juice-40 calories

16 chesse nips-70 calories

2 halfs of Pita Pockets w/Greek Salad (cucumber, zucchini, tomatoes, red pepper, black olives, feta cheese)-255 Calories

Snickers Ice Cream Bar- 180 calories

Cereal and milk- 300 calories

Fruit Snacks- 100 calories- Impulse Eating- My kids brought me fruit snacks to open for them and a pack for me. I ate them with out thinking about it. Something to watch for.

Turkey Sub- 678 Calories (Bread, Turkey, tomatoes, lettuce, olives, Mayo)
440 calories in bread and mayo- I used super thick bread instead of whole wheat and I used mayo instead of mustard. I knew this was bad but I did not know how bad until I was adding the calories up after eating it. I think that I should figure the calories up before eating as this seems to happen alot.

Total: 1843 Calories

I'm fairly happy with my eating today. I got in breakfast, alot of veggies, and didn't go over in calories. I need to work on fruit and water!

TeachX3 - May 12, 2008 11:07 PM (GMT)

Its prefect! That really made my day Teach. I laughed out loud as soon as I saw it. Thanks. Its really great.

TeachX3 - May 13, 2008 01:30 AM (GMT)

heehee, you are welcome!

If you want to keep it, right click on it and save it to your computer... because when I remove it out of my online image hosting folder it will not be in this thread anymore, but you will still have it on your computer for your own use!

Seriously, eating breakfast is a HUGE accomplishment... if you can keep going for 21 days straight, it should be habit! You can DO IT!

sarahinparis - May 13, 2008 04:55 PM (GMT)
Prin, I too was overwhelmed with coming back (I've only been back a few weeks) and the task of changing from a terrible diet to a good one seemed near impossible.

The first few weeks I focused on Positive Counting only. I did two things
1) I did write down everything I ate, but not w calorie counts
2) I kept a running count each day of how many fruits and veggies I ate (with minimum goal of 5, target of 7, ideal of 9)

This approach really helped me because I was focusing on what I WAS eating, not what I was giving up, and eating all those fruits and veggies means you eat less of the other stuff in general, so calorie-wise you usually win. And focusing on the positive means you're not so focused on what you're NOT eating (cake, ice cream, etc). I'm finding I've moved faster than expected into a good diet pattern - still lots to improve, but the good habits come back rather quickly when you manage to push the bad ones out of the way - and the counting fruits & veggies approach made that manageable (plus really boosted my nutrition!)

Good to see you around again!

And Teach, I love the award you made her - very sweet and creative!

Princess2one - May 14, 2008 03:57 PM (GMT)
Thanks for the idea Sarah. I will do that on days that I cant (or wont) count calories. I never seems to be able to stick with it for very long. :)

I'm so depressed about yesterday. I was right at 1900 calories yesterday evening, when my husband showed up with fast food, he came home early and brought dinner home. I ate it and I was not even hungry. :( All my fault. I really need to to practice self control. I know what I need to do but its so hard. Total calories for yesterday about 2600 calories! :( :( :( I did eat breakfast!!!

May 14th

I cant count calories today so I will just post what I eat:

Breakfast- Cereal and milk

Banana and fudge pop-What a great thing to eat before 10am!

To be continued...

TeachX3 - May 14, 2008 04:58 PM (GMT)

Do not beat yourself up for things done in the past, (even as recent as last night), give notice to the behavior, realize you sometimes will make mistakes because you are human, pick yourself back up and start fresh with a new goal today! Yesterday is gone girl, but today is in your reach! ((HUGE HUGS)) we ALL do this every now and again and the *SECRET* to a healthy lifestyle is try, try again.

I am hoping the BEST for you today P2O as you strive to practice self control! :huggs:

shygemini - May 14, 2008 05:31 PM (GMT)
don't feel bad P2O!

2600 calories sounds like alot, but honestly that is probably close to your maintanance calories for a day :) For me, i can eat about 2300-2500 calories a day and maintain my weight.

i think it is great that you ate breakfast, and if the fast food was right in front of you and you wanted it, i think it would be very difficult to resist it.

**HUGS**

TeachX3 - May 14, 2008 05:55 PM (GMT)

I agree Shy, HUGELY difficult! As a matter of fact, if one likes fast food and it is sitting right in front of them, I think it would be almost UNhuman to resist it... if they did resist, it would be SUPERHUMAN! and I gotta say... I like fast food and I am *not* superhuman!! So, I would of eaten it as well...

Did that make sense?

Princess2one - May 14, 2008 08:23 PM (GMT)
Thanks Shy and Teach! 8) You made prefect sense. Thats a good way of putting it. I am feeling better about it now and having a pretty good day today. Before if I would "mess up" I would give up for days and be so mad at myself. This time I was able to recover very quickly. So I am proud of myself for that. :cheer:

Lunch- Smoked Sausage and veggies (green peppers, onions, gabbage)

Cereal and milk-again

Cheeze Nips

For dinner I will have Grilled Chicken, Salad, and Broccoli

Princess2one - May 15, 2008 08:32 PM (GMT)
I did good last night and ate Grilled chicken and salad for dinner and nothing else after that. And not one bte of the mac and chesse the rest of the family had. :D

May 15th

Lunch- Tostada with beef, beans, rice, cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, black olives, avocado-500 calories

Princess2one - May 16, 2008 01:58 AM (GMT)
