Hey Shy :D

hey purrrple!

for some of my exercises (leg press, leg extension, leg curl, and multi hip) i use machines at the gym.

i will take a look and see what i can find here for a demonstration of lower body exercises...

1. http://exercise.about.com/cs/exerciseworko...llowerbody2.htm

that has pictures of a few exercises, although different to what i do

2. http://www.exrx.net/Workouts/Workout2UL.html

this site seems awesome! everything is catagorized into upper and lower body, and then type of exercise, and it gives you tons of exercises you can do for each muscle! and there is a little animation of each exercise, i think it will be helpful.

3. http://www.dietsite.com/dt/exerciseplanner...odyExercise.asp

this site has pretty good pics of some lower body exercises (squat, lunge, deadlift)

you can also click on the tab for upper body exercise and there are some good ones there too!

Let me know if you need any other demos! :)

purrrple - May 21, 2007 11:50 PM (GMT)
Thanks Shy, some great stuff there. Will slowly add some to my workout :)

shygemini - May 23, 2007 12:58 AM (GMT)
You are very welcome purrrple! :)

May 22, 2007:

10 min walk to gym
1 hour muscle sculpt class
- using 9lb dumbells for all except shoulders and triceps where i used 6lbs
- using 15lb bodybar...i really didn't even feel like i was lifting anything most of the time so i'm gonig to try the 18lb bodybar next time :o

shygemini - May 26, 2007 03:41 AM (GMT)
May 25, 2007:

1 hour step aerobics class

I really pushed myself today. When we went through the 5 little routines at the end, i felt so energized, and i was doing the advanced moves.

Afterwards, i promptly felt exhausted and couldn't do all my sit ups

But it was good!

TeachX3 - May 26, 2007 04:29 AM (GMT)

Great job Shy! :D

shygemini - May 26, 2007 06:01 PM (GMT)
Thanks teach!

May 26:

Just got back from 1 hr 45 min of tennis!!! It was great, but man it is sunny out although not too hot (15 celsius or 59 F).

I have signed up to go to muscle sculpt class in one hour but i'm not sure yet if i'll go or not. Right now i'm eating yogurt and relaxing in front of my fan on full blast

Cherriterri - May 26, 2007 06:07 PM (GMT)
Thats Alot of Tennis, and then a muscle sculpt class on top of that! Amazing!!

Please Please Please send some sun my way!!! It has been cloudy and rainy for a whole week!

shygemini - May 26, 2007 08:25 PM (GMT)
Cherri-thanks! Sometimes i try to make up for my lack of exercise other days on saturday. I wish i could send our weather your way. It is beautiful outside (sunny and 18C/64F).

So, i did infact go to my muscle sculpt class for 1 hour.

That is 2 hr 45 min of exercise today, and i am pooped.

I actually tried using the 18lb bodybar, which is the heaviest body bar available for these classes. I used it for: squats, lunges, bench press. I used the 15lb body bar for biceps, triceps, shoulders. We also did inner and outer thigh lifts, pushups, situps. It was a good class, i felt like i really was working my whole body out.

While we were doing the ab work at the end of the class, my entire body started shaking..i think just from all the exercise today LOL.. so i took it easy and didn't push myself. :)

shygemini - May 28, 2007 03:39 AM (GMT)
May 27:

Today i did a 45 min walk.

JennyT - May 28, 2007 04:12 AM (GMT)
I have really started to enjoy walking. I am walking my dog with my baby like 4 times a day for 20 mins. I wish we lived close to each other so we could go walking together :D ! You are really doing a great job shy, such dedication!!!

shygemini - May 28, 2007 02:42 PM (GMT)
i'd love to go walking with ya!

thanks jenny! :)

shygemini - May 30, 2007 01:00 AM (GMT)
May 29:

Today i had a 10 min walk in the pouring rain to the gym

Then i did a 1 hour muscle sculpt class.

I was really pushing myself. I used an 18lb bodybar for: squats, lunges, shoulder press, rows, inner and outer thigh, other arm exercises. I used 2 x 9lb dumbells for bicep curls (9lb/arm). I even did 12 pushups, which is alot for me. :)

purrrple - May 30, 2007 01:25 AM (GMT)
You're gonna be real happy with yourself when you get to goal Shy! All those muscles are gonna show and you're going to look like a mean machine! with lovely little girly curves ;)

Cherriterri - May 30, 2007 05:08 AM (GMT)
Wow, Shy you must have some great muscles!! You must really be toning up.

shygemini - May 30, 2007 05:14 AM (GMT)
thanks cherri and purrple!

yeah i think i am toning quite alot. I don't actually want the "muscled look" at the end, i just want to be toned and unjiggly, but still soft...thus, toning along the way and stopping around 175lbs...at least for now :)

shygemini - May 31, 2007 03:33 AM (GMT)
May 30:

20 min walking
45 min spin class

total 65 min cardio :)

triscuitwafer - May 31, 2007 04:24 AM (GMT)
wow! your awesome! Ya know I went to HWF and checked out your food diary and was offended by the comments that girl was making about her opinion on your calories and the pace of you weight loss. I think she's nuts cause from the looks of it you are building a ton of muscle and muscle weighs more then fat so ofcouse the scale is going to move at a slower pace! Thats why we can't go by the scale alone! You are doing great! Wooo Hooo

shygemini - May 31, 2007 04:28 PM (GMT)
thank you kat :) That situation you mention was a very frustrating one for me, and i appreciate that you are on my side Wooo Hooo

I honestly think my body was just having to get used to the way i am doing things, and also being consistant about exercising and eating is helping alot. I'm pleased with how things are going now, and i feel like i am now "acceptably obese" instead of "disgustingly obese" so that is a good step. It is sometimes disheartening to think about how far i have to go, so i don't think about that too much and m ake small goals B) I'm excited to be close to under 220lbs Dance Party

TeachX3 - May 31, 2007 07:50 PM (GMT)

Your doing awesome with the cardio Shy!! :D

shygemini - May 31, 2007 09:43 PM (GMT)
thanks teach!

i'm definately trying to do more of it.

May 31:

I'd like to call this "necessary and unavoidable cardio"

60 minutes walking

triscuitwafer - May 31, 2007 11:07 PM (GMT)
Great job Shy! You will be at your goal sooner then you think Huggs

shygemini - June 2, 2007 12:17 AM (GMT)
thanks kat :)

I did a 1 hour step aerobics class today. I probably shouldnt have, but i was feeling ok sickness wise (if that makes sense)...however i had no energy at all. My heart rate was at 65% or so instead of the 80-85% it normally g ets to in that class.

We did about 35 min step aerobics, and then 20 min weights and a bit of abs.

Better then nothing, but definately not my best workout.

Cherriterri - June 2, 2007 12:28 AM (GMT)
that's too bad you were not totally into it today Shy. The important thing is, you went and you did it. No excuses!! You are amazing Shy.

purrrple - June 2, 2007 01:07 AM (GMT)
Yep anything is better than nothing, you did great Shy! Wooo Hooo

sapphire - June 2, 2007 03:32 PM (GMT)
That's great, Shy - very inspiring.

shygemini - June 2, 2007 04:50 PM (GMT)
thank you cherri, purrple and sapphire :)

Well today i was feeling ok TOM wise, so i figred i'd be ok going to play tennis. Last night i got a charley horse thing in my right leg, but it wasn't too too bad this morning( could walk on it ok) so i figured i'd be alright.

It is about 27 C/80F outside, and that is with the humidex (meaning it feels hotter then the actual temperature)...and after about 30 minutes i felt really dizzy and i had to sit down. I took about a 5 min break, played another 10 minutes, and had to stop.

So, 40 minutes tennis. I am sad because i look forward to tennis each saturday and i wanted to play more, but everytime i was standing up i was feeling dizzy lol.

Probably a combination of TOM and the heat. :(

Cherriterri - June 2, 2007 04:55 PM (GMT)
I'm sorry you are not feeling well Shy. Take a rest and let yourself recover. Next Saturday you will be a tennis machine!! Huggs

purrrple - June 3, 2007 02:19 AM (GMT)
Wow I'm glad you managed to get 40 mins in Shy! Well done!

Hope you feel better so you can enjoy it alot more next week! Huggs

shygemini - June 3, 2007 05:54 AM (GMT)
thank you cherri and purrple :) I think i learned two valuable lessons the past two days

1. don't push myself too hard on the first 3 days of cycle
2. don't play tennis in the heat of the morning, go early before sun is at full blast :)

shygemini - June 7, 2007 07:23 PM (GMT)
I feel like such a lazy person lately, but i have been walking to and from work each day, taking stairs at work...so not terrible.

Today i did a 45 min muscle sculpt class, and it was really demanding. We didn't really get any breaks and basically worked every muscle.

Cardio today is walking...40 minutes (to work, to gym, back from gym, back home)...haven't gone home yet but i will be eventually

TeachX3 - June 7, 2007 07:54 PM (GMT)

I think you are doing fantastic. Rember back before we started living each day the healthiest we could? How much exercise did you get then? If you are anything like me... the answer is not much at all. SO, my point is... lazy? Hardly! ;)

shygemini - June 7, 2007 08:07 PM (GMT)
you are right teach :D Looking back at how i've changed, it is quite amazing. I never would have guessed i'd love going to the gym so much, or that i'd chose the stairs over the elevator. The best thing is that i've made lifetime changes, and i know this process doesn't end when the scale hits a certain number. I am excited for the future, and although life maybe isn't the best at the moment,i know things will improve.

Thanks :Huggs:

NicC - June 7, 2007 10:33 PM (GMT)
Hi Shy - looks like your workouts have been going great! Looking at your log is great motivation to me!!!

shygemini - June 7, 2007 11:55 PM (GMT)
oh my, thank you so much nic **blush** :D

shygemini - June 17, 2007 05:24 PM (GMT)
cough cough...dusty in here

Well obviously i haven't been exercising since ihad my surgery, a nd i wanted to make sure i have recovered enough before i got back into it. I think i'm well enough now to give exercising a try. I actually got a set of dumbells for my birthday (6lb ones) so i've been doing a few exercises at home here and there and things are going ok.

Looking forward to getting back to the gym!!!!! :danceparty:

Cherriterri - June 17, 2007 06:20 PM (GMT)
Awesome Shy. Just listen to your body and if you feel good go for it.

:yourock:

shygemini - June 22, 2007 06:05 PM (GMT)
ok, well today is the big day (i think)...i am going to go to step aerobics later this afternoon.

I am actually really nervous! I haven't gone to the gym in like 2 weeks  I'm just worried i'll be so disappointed with my fitness level at the moment. I guess all i can do is to go and see where i'm at, and not worry too much about it.

TeachX3 - June 22, 2007 06:14 PM (GMT)

 Have FUN today girl!!
