Title: Shy's as easy as 1-2-3 challenge

shygemini - April 1, 2008 05:54 PM (GMT)
Week 1: April 2-9

1. Eat breakfast every morning and stop sleeping in!

2. Only eat one treat per day (or even better, no treats). A treat = a cookie, a piece of cake, a muffin, a 100 cal choc bar, etc.

3. Consume less than 500 calories/day in liquids (ie starbucks coffee, milk, juice). This is not an exact number, but rather a ballpark.

TeachX3 - April 1, 2008 06:08 PM (GMT)

Shy! May I join you?? I have not been doing well on my food intake :( I feel like I have gained weight too. I have not stepped on the scale, but I am fearful of Thursday's results! Your challenge sounds smart and doable!

:cheer: :bouncy: YOU CAN DO IT SHY! :bouncy: :cheer:

shygemini - April 1, 2008 07:04 PM (GMT)
You certainly can join me! :D Thank you for the support!

I think even having 1 treat a day is too much BUT considering what i've been doing lately it is a step in the right direction, so i'm taking it slowly.

Happyjaxx - April 1, 2008 07:08 PM (GMT)
I want to be in with you two marvelous ladies!!! :D

shygemini - April 1, 2008 07:56 PM (GMT)
excellent! the more the merrier! :D

NicC - April 1, 2008 10:45 PM (GMT)
Count me in! My name is Nic and I'm a treat-aholic, lol. I rarely have more than 50 cal in liquids but I will substitute my number 3 with drinking 2 full L of water!

TeachX3 - April 2, 2008 12:11 AM (GMT)

WOOOT! We got ourselves a challenge! Should we document our SUCCESS (or lack thereof) here in this thread or only in our personal food diaries?

shygemini - April 2, 2008 04:58 AM (GMT)
whatever you gals would like to do about documenting is fine with me!

myself i am going to document on this thread. :D

NicC - April 2, 2008 12:14 PM (GMT)
I was thinking the same Shy
April 2 1. Breakfast - done, 2 - check (I had 1/4 of a dark chocolate Lindt bunny), 3. check - 2L of water

April 3 1. check 2. none 3. only made it to about 6-7 c. but close

April 4- 1. check 2. too many dark chocolate and teddy grahams :pig: 3. only 4 cups

April 5 -1. check 2. too many - dessert at buffet (only ate things I would enjoy though) 3. Does a pot of green tea count towards this?

April 6 1. check 2. 3. not there yet not doing so good this weekend back on track tomorrow!

Happyjaxx - April 2, 2008 01:03 PM (GMT)
April 1- Did great on all three! had breakfast, came close on the liquids, but managed to keep it under 500. No treat.

shygemini - April 2, 2008 05:29 PM (GMT)
April 2:

1. Breakfast- Check!
I still slept in, though.

2. Treat- too many! (2)
CHocolate graham wafers
now i have to ensure i don't eat any more treats today.
Well, i had a 100cal choc bar after supper..but this is still a vast improvement over normal!

3. Beverages-check!
Milk- 3/4 cup 1% = 83 cal
Grande nonfat chai latte = 200 cal
Milk- 2 cups- 220 cal

shygemini - April 3, 2008 05:44 PM (GMT)
April 3:

1- Breakfast- Check!
Slept in again though

2- Treats- one so far! Now to resist ...
Lol, i had another one :( a 100 cal choc bar.

3- Beverages:
16 ounce nonfat chai latte- 200 cal
2 cups 1% milk - 220 cal
Tea- 30 cal

NicC - April 3, 2008 09:55 PM (GMT)
Don't worry so much about sleeping in at least you are eating breakfast! Also have you tried the PC Chai Green Tea - I love it!

TeachX3 - April 3, 2008 10:36 PM (GMT)

I am striving to be as strict and on track as possible with this, and for me, I have added and revised the challenge. They are all now daily goals for me to check off. I will continue to post in my food diary.

shygemini - April 4, 2008 01:19 AM (GMT)
thank you nic :D It was hard to make myself eat when i already felt i was 1/2 hour late, but i did it, and really it only takes 5 minutes (if i eat fast). I havent tried that tea but i will have to do so!

teach- that sounds great! My idea for this challenge is that it was to help me get back on track so i picked the most prevalent problems that i need to fix. I'm not looking forward to my goals for next week lmao

shygemini - April 4, 2008 05:50 PM (GMT)
April 4:

1- Breakfast- Check!
Didn't sleep in as much!

2- Treat
Had one in the morning again

3- Beverage calories-
Grande nonfat caramel macciato- 190 cal
Milk 3/4 cup - 83 cal

Part of my challenge next week, i think, is to switch from Grande to Tall drinks at starbucks (so i am still having my coffee, but less calories)

NicC - April 4, 2008 06:03 PM (GMT)
Good plan, Shy - babysteps!!!

shygemini - April 7, 2008 07:32 PM (GMT)
April 5-
1- Breakfast- Check!!
2- Treats- way over 1 :(
3- Beverage calories- over 500 (i had 2 glasses of wine and another alcoholic drink at a party, plus a glass of fruit juice)

April 6-
1- Breakfast- Check!
2- Treats- fail
3- Beverage calories- check!

April 7-
1- Breakfast- Check!
2- Treats, Choc bar- check!
3- Beverage calories- just some tea

NicC - April 7, 2008 07:54 PM (GMT)
LOL - looks like we had the same weekend :pig:

April 7 1. - breakfast check
2. treats none
3. made it!

April 6 - breakfast - check
2. 3 little chocolate bunnies and 2 hershey's kisses about 210 calories (one reg. chocolate bar) - stupid reason to eat it too I was mad at my 14 yr old for cutting gym class but I did put 12 leftover Hershey kisses in lootbags for my ds's birthday party or I would have eaten those too.... :(
3. made it to 4 cups (sheer laziness forgot my bottle on the TM and didn't feel like going downstairs to get it - what is WRONG with me...)

shygemini - April 9, 2008 01:28 AM (GMT)
i'm thinking with the treats thing...since treats come in different shapes and sizes...i am modifying it so that i can have more then one treat if it is still less than 300 cal/day of a treat. This might seem strange as i would allow myself a higher calorie treat if it is only one treat. Hey, it makes sense to me!

Anyways...

April 8:

Breakfast- FAIL
Treats- None so far. It is 7:30pm, i had supper before i went to the gym..i might have something!
Beverage calories- 200 so far.

NicC - April 9, 2008 02:56 AM (GMT)
Makes sense to me Shy - I think my little "binge" would count as one treat...

Happyjaxx - April 9, 2008 01:40 PM (GMT)
This was a great challenge idea Shy!! I have to say that i had benn slacking on eating breakfast recently  But I am happy to report that i have had breakfast EVERYDAY since this challenge began!!! :cheer: Once again thanks and great idea Shy!

TeachX3 - April 9, 2008 06:24 PM (GMT)

That is AWESOME Jaxx!!

shygemini - April 10, 2008 03:50 AM (GMT)
that's great jaxx and you are very welcome!! :bouncy:

i was wondering, what do you gals consider to be breakfast? i ask because, even on the days when i don't eat something at home, it is because i'm quite late and i eat something at coffee, within an hour of waking. Would that be considered breakfast? I only count something as breakfast when i eat it at home.

April 9:

breakfast- yes
treats- i was having an emotional rollercoaster day, so i had 3 choc bars- 300 cal total
drinks- see above, so i had alot of chocolate milk..sigh.

TeachX3 - April 10, 2008 06:47 PM (GMT)

For me, any food that I eat within an hour of waking is considered breakfast. That usually consists of my LUNA Bar and Black Coffee. Then a couple of hours later I have 'brunch' and then mid afternoon I eat 'lunch' ... I do not think you have to have a full course meal to be considered as breakfast IMO, but it is all according to ones schedule.

NicC - April 10, 2008 07:15 PM (GMT)
Shy - if it's within an hour of waking I would still consider it breakfast no matter where you eat. I'm like Teach in that I usually have something (small bowl of cereal, yoghurt, muffin or whatever) with my coffee and then eat again a couple of hours later...

shygemini - April 10, 2008 07:33 PM (GMT)
thank you for your opinions gals!

in that case, you can change all of the "missed breakfasts" into "breakfast eaten"! I always eat something within an hour of waking.

TeachX3 - April 10, 2008 08:10 PM (GMT)

 Jump starting our bodies is a priority when living healthy... for the past two days, we have not had coffee in the house and I have been super busy cleaning up after puppies. I have not had anything at all in my system until 3 to 4 hours after waking and I have been sluggish, tired and irritable all day. Add the fact that I'm not feeling well and I'm eating whatever the heck I want to eat (crap) all the time lately, and I'm a mess! :(

Glad you are keeping up on your challenge girl :huggs: Good for you!!

NicC - April 11, 2008 07:21 PM (GMT)
hope you feel better soon Teach - have not been 100% myself since Wed and my food has been :pig:

TeachX3 - April 12, 2008 12:36 AM (GMT)

:huggs:

shygemini - April 14, 2008 05:32 PM (GMT)
i was quite ill this weekend and therefore i fell off the wagon (or maybe saying i fell onto the snack wagon is a better way of putting it!)

so my weight this morning is 228.4...considering all (including that it is TOM) i don't think that is terrible. I want to get back on track before my official thursday weigh in.

my challenge this week is to replace my starbucks coffee with a tea (that has no calories!). I don't think i need all that extra sugar early in the morning, and i am also not enjoying it as much anymore since i have it all the time. They do have sugar free syrups but i refuse to have artificial sweeteners..not to mention they taste funny to me! It also costs $4.60 for a coffee and only $1.60 for a tea, so i will be saving $15 a week by switching.

Today i had a 16 ounce tea: I mixed two tea bags, green tea and refresh tea (which is mint).

NicC - April 14, 2008 07:20 PM (GMT)
Good plan Shy - saving money and calories!

TeachX3 - April 14, 2008 08:01 PM (GMT)

I agree, great plan!

shygemini - April 16, 2008 07:04 PM (GMT)
ugh- i think i had/have partially a cold and mostly allergies  I take allergy medication every day, but it didn't seem to be doing anything, so i bought some reactine today (which is terribly expensive, $20 for a package of 20 tablets) and it does seem to be helping a bit which is good. I really wish it would rain.

Even so, i have been doing good on my coffee challenge.

Tuesday- 16 ounce chammomile tea
Wednesday- 16 ounce mint soother tea

TeachX3 - April 17, 2008 12:27 AM (GMT)

Awesome job Shy, you are totally cutting out tons of unneeded empty calories

NicC - April 17, 2008 01:07 AM (GMT)
Nice Shy - you should be dropping a pound a week just by dropping the coffee...

shygemini - April 17, 2008 03:20 PM (GMT)
if i was eating properly otherwise i think i would be dropping yes!

but i am actually noticing that i don't really miss havng the flavored latte's. The tea is just as nice.

NicC - April 17, 2008 03:23 PM (GMT)
LOL. Nice observation about not missing the latte!

TeachX3 - April 17, 2008 03:27 PM (GMT)

... yes it is! Now, EAT RIGHT! *kick* :D

shygemini - April 20, 2008 10:46 PM (GMT)
one week down and no flavored lattees!!
actually, i had a coffee this weekend with just milk and no sugar..and i didn't even notice that the sugar was gone, so i am considering eliminating that as well.
