As you all might now I've tried my hand at learning to run, outside and on the TM. I still feel this is something I want to learn but I'm finding it very hard. My ds also needs to learn to run for his Karate endurance training and it's holding him back from getting his brown belt. Sigh. I've talked to my friend's husband who just completed a marathon (that's why they were in town) and he suggested to check out the clinics run by The Running Room. Looks like they have a learn to run program. Maybe that's the kick in the butt I need - it would also have build in support group and it looks like they cover lots of topics and they have tons of clinics after that if you want to build distance or do a triathlon (my long term goal!).

Has anyone done their clinics before? Or do you know anyone who has? I think the reason I gave up on the couch to 5 k is lack of peer support and coaching/cheerleading - plus I don't know if I'm breathing/running right...

They do seem to have good programs, but one person recently said that they signed up for it and they were all better runners so she couldn't do what they did. Maybe just check with the instructors and see what their plan is for the class. I think she was going to keep going though and still get in on the instore instruction.

There are also several different programs online that give you a schedule on learning to run in 8, 10 or 12 weeks.

I am not sure what you have done in the past but start out with what you can do. If you can run for a whole minute then make a routine of walk 4 minutes and run 1, then walk 4 and run 1 etc. Then when that gets easier walk 3 and run 1.5 or 2 etc. I am sure that you and your son will be running soon.
