Rising sea levels. Flying cars. Speculation about what the world will look like a quarter century from now are in no short supply. New research suggests that nearly every American will be obese by the year 2048. But if new research released this week is correct, we can at least be sure of one thing: The forecast calls for fatness. The study, released this week in the journal Obesity, suggests that by the year 2030, nearly every American will be overweight or obese. Currently, figures from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention put the prevalence of obesity in adults at about 66 percent. But lead study author Dr. Youfa Wang of the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health in Baltimore says that if current overweight and obesity trends continue, 86 percent of Americans could be overweight or obese by the year 2030. Even more troubling, the authors note, "By 2048, all American adults would become overweight or obese." SOURCE * My Remark: This is a HUGE motivation for me to work HARDER to NOT be included in this statistic! Because NOBODY tells me what I will be!! |

I don't know about everyone else... but here in Middle America, most ALL adults are overweight already... with the higher majority being obese. And, the sad thing is, it is not just adults, but teens and children as well... and everyone seems so COMFORTABLE being fat. They wear clothing that is too tight or shows rolls of skin... I could never do that. It is hard to fight against society and drive by the fast food chains without stopping, to not grab a soda or snack from the machine or to stop eating when there is still over half the food on the plate at a restaurant because they serve almost 3 times too much food, yes it is hard but it is not impossible. But with the way people are so accepting of being overweight, I do not foresee a change... it is so sad. |
