Hello!

My name is Melanie, Im a 34 yr old Mother with one daughter who is 15. I work in Accounts Receiving/Finance, have been in this industry for 12 years and love it. I have a desire to eventually go back to school to earn a degree in Accounting.

For the past year, I have made several changes in my health. I have had prescriptions modified for the better, I am allergic to Dairy now thanks to being doctor-ordered off of it. I am on a no-dairy low glycemic approach.

My highest weight was 288 which was a year ago, since then, I have dropped a little over 40 pounds. My goal is to get down to 160-170 and I know I can do this.

I have a little perk working at the hospital: we have our own Gym that is free to use, so I go at least three to four times per week. I love the 'high' I get from a good workout, like last night, I did step-aerobics and it felt AWESOME!

Well, thats pretty much it for me....

Time to get ready for work and cant wait to come back this afternoon!

Hi Melanie,
Nice to meet you. Sounds like you are on the right track with your changes. 40 pounds in a year is a good rate to go to ensure it stays off for good. What have you been replacing the dairy with? My oldest daughter is around the same age as your daughter (she'll be 15 in December). You are blessed to have a free gym to use. I think more work places should do that! :cheer: :cheer: :cheer: Some little cheerleaders for you because that's what we are here for.
1.5 lbs a week will get me to my goal weight by Jan 1 next year!!!

Hi Melanie, :) Nice to meet you. Welcome to the forum. I look forward to getting to know you. How nice to have the gym available. I had that job perk once , but now I am retired so on my own with my exercise. I see you are on the right track with your weight loss & healthy lifestyle changes. Sometimes, even when WE know we are on the right track, we can use some encouragement, appreciation, & pats on the back. so... :congratulations :congratulations:

WOW... well hello back! LOL

to answer a few questions:

Replacing Dairy took a good 6 months before I could stop crawling the walls... its like the Simple Carbohydrates (white bread, white rice, yadda yadda yadda).... there is a significant craving for it because of dairy being a prominent item in the American diet.. Your body is so used to dairy that you do truly go through withdrawals... I know I did.. good gawd, it was horrible...

But, a year later, I dont even want it anymore. I replaced it with trying a few new items a little at a time..

Might I just say Chocolate flavored "Silk" IS AMAZING! I dont even taste the soy milk part of it at all... its different, but DELICIOUS! The vanilla isnt too bad either.. and the prices are reasonable for them here also.

For Butter-replacement, I like "Smart Balance" made with Flax oil... it tastes wonderful!

Cheese... well, I tried a few and I wont say how it made me feel when I tasted it... so, Im thankful I dont crave cheese anymore...

Ice-cream... "Soy Delicious" puts out an AMAZING organic soy-ice cream.. they have a Vanilla that tastes like CAKE FROSTING! OH someone chain me to the wall! LOL The Chocolate-peanut butter is yummy, the Chocolate Fudge.. WOW... I called the Soy Delicious company and told them about my situation about being ordered off dairy and how I was having a hard time finding items in the stores, and wondered if they could help me with a small complimentary sample to try before I buy?

Well, they did even BETTER than that... I got 6 free coupons to try their most popular 'ice-cream' products, and 6 1.00/off coupons that were good for a year... They have my business!!!

I have had a very difficult time keeping the 40 off believe it or not... Im afflicted with "Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome"... Im on all kinds of prescriptions ordered by my Dermatologist who has been a sincere pleasure to see. Women with what I have, encounter more difficulty losing weight, so when I watch what I eat when Im not home, I have to be so very careful about the Dairy... I developed a true allergy to it, and as a result, I go into anaphylactic shock, react, the whole nine yards... Plus, I gain weight because of the naturally-occuring hormones in Milk (not the injected hormones, but the hormones they already have while pregnant)..

I need to get down to about 160-170... I know it will take time... Right now, my mini-Goal is to be down to 200lbs by New Years which is a realistic goal.

Im getting married Memorial Day Weekend 2009, and I hope to have lost another 15 (keeping it reasonable)...

Well, I just heard Hubby-2-B come home, so time to go have dinner...

BBL to look around here... looks like I found a new home!

we will have to talk wedding things...:D once you have a few more posts you can check out my wedding thread (giving you some incentive! hehe)

i am glad to hear you like the chocolate flavored silk. I drink "So nice" soy milk (i just prefer the taste to regular milk so i mix it up, have one or the other) and i often see the silk but i haven't heard if people like it or not!

wow, POS does make weight loss alot more difficult from what i have heard and read. i think that makes your weight loss even more exciting...you overcame this obstacle and succeded!
