No, i am not planning on losing 210lbs in 2010 ...but my plan is that by the end of this year, I want to be 210lbs. That is lower than I have been in a long time, and means that next Christmas I will be much healthier. I will do an official weigh in likely tommorow morning (if i get up early enough) or tuesday and post here to see where i'm at. I think a couple guys called terry (as in the chocolate oranges) may have put a few more pounds on me, but we will see.

I am going to just post in this thread with my progress, concerns, etc. I think when i have too many threads I tend to lose focus and feel it is too hard to keep up with it all.

My new years resolution is to not join any challenges on the forum because they just don't work for me, lol. :)

Hi Shy :) "We have the whole year ahead of us.", I disagree, but please allow me to explain why... It took me one full year to lose about 15 pounds... the first year ('07) I dropped 35 pounds, but come the next year ('08), after my body was used to the lifestyle, I had to fight it hard to get even those 15 gone... and then the next year ('09) was even harder, and I only saw a total of about a 10 pound loss. So IMO, if we have the idea that we have a whole year, it tends to put such a large time frame on the situation, which allows us to be more slack and not so intense and serious with our weight loss and then by the time the end of the year comes... we get discouraged and disappointed in ourselves, which of course is that never ending cycle of self sabotage. I hope I make sense with what I am trying to say... it is just from my personal experience, and just my opinion of course, and only given with the hope it could help!

My Goal... NO to TOXINS: chemicals, artificial colors & flavors, preservatives, additives, man made (lab created) 'foods', GMO's, pesticides, added hormones, antibiotics, etc... and YES to ORGANIC: whole, fresh & pure natural living!

Hi Teach :) I appreciate your comment and your concern. However the important thing to remember is that we all are different, and that what works for one person may not work for another.

If i think about having a very short period of time to get something done, I get stressed. I wanted to lose weight before my wedding, but having that time constraint made me nervous. I think the best way for me to tackle this is how I looked at things when I started...which is that I have lots of time, so I don't feel as though I have failed if I don't achieve a goal by a certain date.

About the time I stopped losing weight (back when I had lost the 50 lbs) I used to write on a calendar that by October 1, i would be this weight, and then this weight by NOvember 1. That method did not work for me.

My plan is that once I have seen some success (i.e. exercising consistently, clothes fitting better, weight loss) that I am going to make some more short term goals, but without times attached to them. When i was losing weight successfuly, i had a little journal where i wrote my weigh in every week, the change in weight from the last week, and on another page i had each 5 lb weight loss written out, where I filled in when I achieved that weight loss. I found that very motivating to look through. I know i keep track here, but sometimes when something is in writing, it feels more real, and when you can see everything on one page, you can see how far your have come.

Hugs :eathealthy: :huggs:

Weigh in #1 (January 5, 2010):

274 lbs.

Not as bad as I thought it could be. I figured the holidays would put on a couple pounds with all the cookies and chocolate i've been eating.

There are less temptations around the house now, and I will be restocking the fridge soon with healthy foods.

Hi Shy -- good luck to you & kudos for setting yourself such a big hairy audacious goal.

I've learned, like Teach, that time-based goals don't work for me, they just stress me out, and that sometimes losing even a 'small' amount takes a long time. But the slow and steady approach (with slip ups for life events like vacations, holidays, sickness) does work for me. But I very much agree we're all different. Like you, the challenges aren't really my thing because I'm too competitive so I'll either give too much too them or I'll bail out.

As a fellow data hound, I too keep lots of records of my weight -- I used to keep charts and graphs with my 'supposed to weights' on them (you know, if I lose 2 pounds a week I'm supposed to weigh xxx by this date). Those were always enormous pressure and depressing because my weight loss has never been that fast nor that steady so I'd see myself falling farther and farther behind the 'supposed to' instead of celebrating what I had really lost.

Today I use two things for tracking my weight -- I found a website called skinnyr which gives a pretty graph, and I keep a google document that just shows week by week change & cumulative change & where I mark every 5 pound milestone & other goals I set for myself (like 10%, or breaking 200, or the current goal of 183 my wedding weight). I'd be happy to share the google doc with you if you'd like. Long ago I kept paper but since so much of my life is on the www these days it's easier to have the items available to me wherever I am.

Good luck w the restocking - we're getting a new fridge this weekend & I'm excited to have more room for fruits & veggies!

Shy, I can understand exactly what you are saying... my Mommy (Tubaqu) is exactly like that. Whenever I need a time on something, she always says "I don't know, I don't do time!" LOL!

What was your highest weight Shy? Maybe place that somewhere (sig or in the side bar or whatever) to help you to see and remember how far you have come! Then as each drop successfully happens, you can compare proudly! (sort of the 'see it in writing' thing you spoke of)

Sarah, that has definitely been my approach... the slow and steady. EVEN if that was not initially my idea of how I was going to do things LOL!

:cheer: I hope the best for your way of success Shy! :huggs:

Hi Sarah!

GOod to see you here :)

Yeah- I'm not looking at anything as a failure anymore. I can always reassess my goal as the year goes on. I just am fairly confident that it is a reasonable goal....it is 'easier' to lose weight when you have more weight to lose in the first place. The 'newer' weight should be easier to get rid of as well i think.

I am looking forward to using my clothes as markers of weight loss. I still have my pair of size 14 pants i bought as goal pants when i was 220lbs (they were just a bit tight at that point). I figure they will fit when i get to around 210lbs or so. I have lovely clothes that will fit between 220-235lbs or so. I have other clothes that will fit much better (which i am wearing now) when i am around 250-260 lbs. So these will all serve as great markers of how i'm doing, even if the scale isn't moving.

My body is not being nice to me at the moment, and i am not sure i am up for exercise yet. But posting here will help keep me on track in the time being.

I volunteered at the Food Bank today for a couple hours, which was good but definitely tired me out...and i have an extremely messy kitchen that must be cleaned up before i can cook supper.

Sadly I am at my highest weight right now- 274 lbs. :( I have never been heavier that I know of. Once i've lost some weight, i'll definitely keep that in my signature to remind me of where i came from. It is frustrating that i am now 9 lbs heavier than my previous highest weight of 265 lbs.

I'll give this a go and see how it goes. I just know that saying i'll lose 10 lbs by my vacation in feb (for instance) will not work lol....so trying a longer term approach :)

I think today went pretty well. I avoided a few temptations that I could have easily had, and i didn't like the supper i made so i didn't have seconds LOL.

The only bad thing is that yes i'm still awake and it is nearly 2am. We finally selected our wedding pictures that we want to use for our wedding album, and that took a long time..then i had a homework assignment that took much longer than I anticipated.

ps it is our 4 month anniversary today :bouncy: (well yesterday now lol, on the 5th)

Thank you! :)

Sadly no, I had to be up by 8am :( So i'm quite tired today and I look awful lol

I am proud of myself for having a proper breakfast though! I had a toasted bagel with light salmon cream cheese, and a glass of tropical juice at home. I need to have these good breakfasts!

I ditto the bravo on the home breakfast! At my heaviest I would stop TWICE in the drive to the office, first to get a bagel with cream cheese (TWO) and then at a coffee place where I put tons of flavored sugared creamer (full of trans fats I'm sure) and sometimes pick up something sweet to eat again. I had a 45 min drive, the first stop was 10 min in, the second was 20 min later and those bagels were gone by the time I made the second stop. Frightening.

When I started losing weight I ate breakfasts at home - cereal, oatmeal, whatever. Pretty much no matter what I ate it was an improvement!

I totally agree Sarah that anything we eat at home is bound to be an improvement! At least we have a better idea of what we are eating. TOday i didn't manage to eat at home BUT i think i made good choices (Apple Juice, Toasted sesame seed bagel with peanut butter, hot chocolate).

I am super annoyed. Actually i have been since yesterday. I don't want to get into it on the forum but it is school related and i am having a hard time letting it go. Gah. I couldn't get to sleep last night because of it :(

If anyone reads this and has a suggestion of how to calm myself down i'd appreciate it (even if it seems like an obvious suggestion).

And in other news, i am now home and going to fix myself a snack. I had a light supper yesterday (coffee, bagel with salmon cream cheese, yogurt). Haven't been overly hungry recently.

Shygemini: I so understand where you are at with being upset by something that happened. That seems to be my life as well. I don't have any great suggestions, but one thing that is very helpful to me is to realize that once in a while we have a "throwaway day". That's a day that was just awful for whatever reason. Well....just throw it away and begin anew the next day! I know that sounds simplistic - but some days that is about the only way the I can cope.

I totally loved the other posts - I felt like I could have written them. I too did the whole graph thing - and yes - that didn't work either. I am also amazed that there are others who are near my own weight. I know that you don't want to be that weight - but you have NO idea knowing how wonderful it is to be on a site with others who are struggling just like I am!

Thank you so much for your post black_dress! :) Don't worry- I totally understand how relieving it is to see that you are not the only person at your weight. ALthough all of us here are struggling with weight, it feels different when you have more weight to lose. We can get through it together ! :)

I am feeling much better about the school incident now. I can't dwell on it, no time for that lol!
It was definitely a throw-away day-at least during the day. I had a great time that night though- went to a friend's house for supper (salmon, corn on cob, hashbrowns) and watched a really bad movie (Jennifer's body- which the husbands rented as it had Megan Fox in it, lol-men!) and played games. Last night I was intending to clean the house, but instead got a surprise call and went over to a friend's place to play games and drink wine...i drank too much wine though ...and was sick today, but had a great time! :bouncy:

Well, since you asked, I DO have suggestions for managing stress. This became something of a profession for me last year, as I had a very stressful time with the cancer stuff.

My top suggestion is to learn to meditate, even if it sounds all new-agey and weird, it is really a great tool & gives you control back in all kinds of situations.

The other thing is to share this list which I developed for myself last year of 100 things that make me happy. (Obviously it would be better to have your own list). When I'm stressed I read the list & pick one or two or more items from it! It's a big help!
