Maintenance; The pitfalls and problems

It is amazing how you feel after having a bad food session. Realistically I know that I will not gain a tremendous amount of weight after eating the following this weekend
2 LARGE bag of crisps (chips)
2 LARGE bags of chocolate (250 grams each)
2 LARGE bag of sweets
Chips (fries)
Whole packet of biscuits
Half a toffee apple cheesecake (that was SERIOUSLY yum)
Not to mention BBQ food, potato salad, coleslaw...the works

Quite an impressive list I am sure you will agree lol! So the way i feel this morning, you might as well have stuck me right back in my fat body 26 months ago. My mind set is just as cruel now as it would have been back then had I done the same thing. Of course I am not going to suffer any long term damage from this weekend...but mentally I think it is fascinating that I feel just as negative about it now as I would have done was I 150 pounds heavier sitting here typing this right now. Just goes to show that our mind sets may not alter as much as our physical appearance. No doubt I will be good again now and then have another marathon food sesh somewhere down the line..but the changes I have made are long term...I know that as I can pick up right where I left off at the end of last week whereas I would have given in before and gone back to eating like crap and gaining loads of weight because I would have convinced myself I have failed. THIS is where I know this time is different. :wooohooo:

This could be the 'poster child' of healthy thinking!!! WOOOOT!!! Good for you girl, awesome!! I love the way you think, you and I are quite a bit alike... sure we have a splurge every now and again (and I am not even in maintenance yet) but we just pick ourselves back up again and start fresh. Beating oneself up will not reverse the clock... it will not make us not gain weight, it will not make us feel better, it will not make us 'learn our lesson'... it just shows that we have not come to the point of acceptance. We must accept ourselves for who we are, for the good and bad choices we make and love ourselves through the ups and downs. This is just my two cents of course, but to me, it totally makes sense... Great post!

Thanks Teach, you do say some incredibly wise things on here...the minute we accept that having a splurge on some 'not so healthy' foods is not going to make us instantly gain 5 pounds, the easier this whole thing becomes. So many people binge, become despondent and then jack it all in (oh I have been there SO many times in the past) but having that day where you do let you hair down can be theraputic in many ways. You are allowing yourself those moreish goodies that you have craved to eat. This immediately stumps any craving instincts, which can jeopardise the diet no end if you continualy resist the things you may fancy from time to time. It is all about balance..
