So, I am going to head out and buy a new scale today. The old one went in the garbage since all it read was 263.2, even when I put a 10 pound weight on it. I am tired of weighing myself at work so I need a new scale at home I am worried about what the scale will say since I have not weighted myself in a few months and my clothes are feeling really tight. I can't even wear some of my smallest pants anymore and that makes me sad. I am guessing I have gained at least 15 to 20 pounds. Well, I got rid of those pounds once so I can do it again. |

a new scale is very exciting! don't worry about what you have gained...just focus on getting into the next pair of pants which are a bit snug at the moment

I agree with Shy - concentrate on those pants and I like your idea of preparing meals at home to bring to work. |

Thanks Guys. I bought a scale today. It is a nice one, and is an analog one, I really got frustrated with the digital. I weighed myself when I got home this evening and the damage was not as bad as I thought it would be. 258 is what it said. That is about a 10 pound gain and I weighed myself at the end of the day after I had eaten all day. I'll try again in the morning to see what it says. |

Oh that is wonderful Cherri, 10- pounds is not much at all... and I am starting to feel the same way as you when it comes to the digital scale, mine is truly annoying me to no end! |

Thanks Teach!! Yeah, those digital scales can get really annoying. my old one, before it got stuck at one reading would give me 6 different readings in 6 minutes if I kept getting on and off of it. Drove me crazy. Hopefully this analog one will be better. There were some fancy pants scales at the store today that cost $75 and had these weird sensor things that would read your body fat and body water (at least that is the claim). I don't quite understand how a scale can read your body fat levels through the bottoms of your feet. |

I know! I looked at those too and wondered the exact same thing! ?? It seems to me that it would not be very accurate! Let me know how the analog scale works out for you girl... because it is the same for me, I spend at least half an hour stepping on, stepping off, moving the scale to different areas of the floor, picking up weights, putting them down, having others stand on the scale and then I eventually just pick the number I saw the most of. I feel as if the SCALE IS FORCING ME to become more and more and more obsessed!! I don't need the stress. *whew* I feel like such a looser or something, letting the scale get me all riled up like this. |

hmmm......far be it from me to disagree but...i loves my digital scale It is a fancier one that *does* read bodyfat% and bodywater... However i've never gotten that bit to work on it! Also, i agree that it can't give an accurate bodyfat reading. My sense is that it would have to calculate it through simply an equation based on your height and weight...although there are supposedly some kind of sensor on the scale itself. |

10 lbs is not too bad considering all the stress you've been under and the recent holiday season - NOT BAD at all!!

Thanks NicC. I'm happy it is only 10 pounds and not the 20 I thought it was. I want to get rid of it though. I did have a cheap digital scale Shy, so maybe that was part of the problem. I guess you do get what you pay for. I did the same as Teach, on and off of it a million times before I "chose" a weight. i'm glad you like yours though. |

Yay Cherri! 10 pounds won't take you long to drop again. You're right - you can do it. You will do it. You're motivated!! As for the scale, I have a ritual. I step on it only after I've just woken up - I won't eat or drink anything at all - then I'll start poking the darn thing to get it exactly at zero (if someone has been moving it on me again) .. then I'll gingerly step on it. Then off. Then on. Repeat repeat repeat repeat. Takes me probably 15 minutes to settle that it is telling me the truth. Scales suck. lol. But I refuse to let myself get on it more than once every Friday morning. If I did this every day I'd go nuts. If I weighed myself at night I'd be bloated. Ah the hoops we jump through to lose weight - but in the end it is worth it. Keep going Cherri! |

Hey Cherri, you're doing great. A small gain especially after Christmas (the wrost time of year for food and stress I say). You'll be back to it in no time.

I even get extra arm weight work in... 'cause I use my weights to 'check' to make sure the scale is not lying!

On the scale, off the scale, on the scale, off the scale ... shake scale ... curse ... squint ... bounce .. bounce .. squint. That's pretty much my morning routine on weigh in day. I think I burn a lot of calories doing it, too. |

I'm cracking up here... I actually like my digital scale and it displays the same number if I stepped off and stepped on again. It's not a fancy one with bf% and other options either, just weight. I have heard of several people switching to an analog one though, so it's probably a common problem. However, I personally feel motivated and more likely to stay on track even if I see a 0.1 kg loss which would be impossible with an analog one. Don't worry about the slight gain, Cherri - they'll be gone, one step at a time.

I weighed myself today and the scale said 255!! I don't think I have actually lost 3lbs in 10 days, I think this just better reflects my weight since the last time I weighed in was at the end of the day after I had bought my new scale. Either way, I can deal with this number. |
